Seeking a quiet, woodsy spot for writing home improvement books, author Don Vandervort converted the bottom floor of his sons' two-story treehouse into a small office. He launched HomeTips.com from that office in 1997, essentially as an online portfolio to promote his books.

In the decade since, HomeTips has grown into a large and popular site, thanks to the authority Vandervort has developed and the volume of content he has collected and posted from his more than two dozen books, scores of magazine articles, and many television appearances on ABC and HGTV. Read more here

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
AutomotiveForums.com
Case study : AutomotiveForums.com : www.automotiveforums.com
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Business

In November of 2000, when he was just 14 years old, Igor Sushko founded AutomotiveForums.com because of his enthusiasm for cars and desire to spread knowledge to others. Today, the site receives about 950,000 unique visitors each month on more than 1,000 forums. There, car buffs can discuss virtually any car make and model with more than 150 expert moderators and thousands of other enthusiasts. Membership growth has maintained its steady pace and is nearing 500,000 worldwide.

Approach

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"AdSense is a win-win for all entities. It adds value to my website, and not just from a revenue standpoint. The ads are also useful for visitors."
Igor Sushko
Founder

To maximize the value of his site, Sushko wanted to build revenue by running relevant advertising throughout AutomotiveForums.com. But more important, he wanted to maintain a feeling of community on the site’s pages. He needed to ensure that ads were correctly targeted and therefore relevant to the content on his site. "Psychologically, the people who visit AutomotiveForums.com are part of a community," explains Sushko. "They get offended when things change unexpectedly, or when they feel they’re being spammed."

Based on Google’s brand, reputation and targeting technologies, Sushko decided to explore contextual advertising more fully. In August 2003, he began running Google AdSenseTM ads throughout the site. In addition to AdSense ads, Sushko expanded his options by trying other contextual advertising networks. Read more here

Do You Know the 4 Mind Burning Questions About AdSense Code Insertion?

By Asem Eltaher

It is a matter of fact that the process of AdSense code insertion is your first step to finally make a serious income by working online at home. Hundreds of thousands of people surf the internet daily to find an answer to the question: How to make a lot of money online avoiding scams? If you are one of them, then Google is the right choice for you.

This is due to the fact that Google is one of the top legitimate companies that hire people to work at home. Therefore, you do not have that big risk if you work a company that you may find out later on that it is nothing but a scam. Additionally, the help and support offered on Google's forums would help you to have a shorter way to your success.

Google advertising program offers benefits for both sides Google and the webmasters themselves. Indeed, webmasters insert a piece of code on their websites that tell Google what the main topics, ideas and the content of these websites. Subsequently, Google shows ads on these websites that are relevant to the website's topic. This way, internet surfers stopped by your website will be more motivated to click on your ads in the hope to find much more relevant information.

The behavior of the website's visitors determines a reasonable answer to the question "How does Google make money". Indeed, the clicks achieved by the site's surfers on Google ads make Google as well as the webmaster money. Google charges the ads owners a certain amount of money called pay per click and then pay you a percentage of this income since the ads are shown on your site.

A preliminary step before thinking to make a serious income with ready sites is to learn the answers to the following 4 top frequently asked questions.

Q1: Do I need an AdSense code password?

A1: To acquire the code from Google, it is not mandatory to get any specific password for this purpose. If you do not have an account at Google, then you need one that you get it free of charge. With this account's password you can login and get your code embedded with your publisher's ID as well.

Q2: What are the benefits from inserting AdSense code into YouTube?

A2: Indeed, you do not get any huge benefits if you thought about pasting AdSense code into youtube. To carry an effective marketing campaign, try to offer an informative and attractive video on youtube to market your website.

This would definitely increase the traffic to your AdSense website. Showing up on the video advertising websites should be done using an informative video and not via advertising. Otherwise, your credibility will suffer and the audience would not be motivated at all to stop by your website.

Q3: Does AdSense code have to be displayed on my website?

A3: The code insertion has nothing to do with showing the code on your website. The work, which has to be done from your side, is just to copy and paste Google's code into your webpage in order for the ads to be properly displayed.

It does not worth at all to worry about viewing your code by others. Generally, selecting the page source from the view menu would lead each visitor to navigate your source code and see your AdSense code and your Google's publisher ID. No panic as they, from the technical point of view, can not edit your code. They can not delete it either.

Q4: Is it possible to use AdSense code on more than one site?

A4: Of course, you can. The idea is to use your single Google's account to show ads on different websites even if they handle various topics as Google's code can scan web pages to know the topic of their content.

Google made the process of using AdSense code definitely easier and much more practical through memorizing the contents of your individual results. Then, the corresponding algorithms will show ads on your websites depending on their topics.

With these 4 most frequently asked questions, you should be able to successfully do your AdSense code insertion.

PPC Best Practices - How to Recognize Them

By Jim Leclere

An online sale may seem like an impossible goal. For many years, in fact for most of the time the Internet has been around, experts have denied its use as a sales tool and doubted it would ever turn into the online marketplace it was once touted to be.

Of course, they were wrong and we have all bought and sold items, products, and services online. But, there are a lot of unscrupulous people out there who are not using PPC best practices, and stealing our money and our customers.

If you are looking for leads for online sales, you have to beware. PPC best practices are rarely practiced. The leads you purchase from a sales generation company have often already been used by another person in your line of business. They sell the lists over and over again. The data used in the lists can be wrong or outdated, and the people on the lists may not even exist.

The old saying goes, "If you want something done right, do it yourself." Nowhere else is that more true than in the online world.

Why rely on someone else to generate your leads when you can do it yourself? There is a sales lead generation tool that you can use to generate your own leads, based on the type of customer you are looking for. Endless Annuity Leads generates fresh and quality potential customers that have not been worked before, and are eager to hear from you!

Because PPC best practices are not always followed, you have to be extra careful when choosing a lead service. But, by generating your own leads using software such as this, there is no way someone can sell you a list of obsolete leads.

10 Super Tips to Avoid Your AdSense Being Shut Down!

You can avoid AdSense Meltdown by remembering a few simple rules. The main one is that Google likes you to play by their rules so in order to keep your AdSense account that is exactly what you have to do!

Here are some of the easiest to forget!

1) Simple and straight forward if you open an account do not click on your own ads! Yes it may be tempting but do not do it. It is strictly against Google's Terms of Conditions. This is classed as Click Fraud. They also have regular checks for any click abuse.

2) Do not click on other publishers ads. This is also against Google Terms of Conditions. Why that should be I'll never know because you could well be a potential customer!

3) Do not encourage friends or members of your family to click on your ads! Doing this is also against Google's Conditions as you are required to not encourage ad clicks

4) Do not tell friends or relatives that you have a site's with AdSense ads. The reason for this is purely because friends and relatives may be tempted to click on them too in a misguided attempt to help you.

5) Do not place ads on sites that they do not like e.g. Gambling or sex sites! Here they just do not allow their ads because they do not like to encourage gambling in any way, shape or form or adult, mature or pornographic sex sites

6) Use ads that blend in with your site and preferably text ads. If you blend your ads on your site to match the context and surroundings as far as you can within Google's guidelines your visitor will be less overwhelmed than if suddenly faced with a load of intrusive ads

7) Use Banner or Tower ads sparingly and only if you can blend them in well. These can be blended in when care is taken in designing the site from the beginning.

8) Do not spam to get people to your site's. Under Google's Conditions they do not like you spamming and neither does anyone else apart from spammers so there is no point doing it.

9) Do not try to remove or cover the Ads By Google sign. Trying to hide the fact that they are Google ads will also get your account terminated so as above just try to be as subtle as possible when blending them in.

10) Last but not least Check Google's AdSense rules on a regular basis for any updates to them. Google updates their Publishers ToC, (Terms of Conditions), on a regular basis as people are finding different ways to interpret their rules. So make sure you keep up with them because if you don't then you wake up one day and find that you cannot log in to your account.

Easy Steps To Hands Off Passive Income

by: Dan Farrell

So you want to increase your Adsense income? Log into your Adsense account, and look at your last month's stats. There are three key areas that contribute to your earnings: Impressions, Clickthroughs and Effective CPM. Improving your stats in any, or preferably, all of these three key areas will increase your Adsense earnings.

Impressions

Impressions are the number of times your webpages with Adsense ads have been viewed. You can increase Impressions by increasing traffic (preferably targeted traffic) to your webpages. Some of the best ways to increase targeted traffic to your webpages include:

-create more webpages, with relevant, focused content
-create more links to your webpages
-list your website/s under relevant categories in more directories
-set up a directory of relevant sites on your website and accept relevant
reciprocal links
-write relevant articles, with your site information in the 'resource box' at the end of each article, and submit them to article directories
-advertise with pay per click search engines like Google's Adwords. www.Miva.com (formerly www.FindWhat.com, www.YahooMarketing.com (formerly Overture) and 100's of others. When of the best places for pay per click info is www.payperclicksearchengines.com with a descriptive list of 659 search engines.

Clickthroughs

Clickthroughs are the percentage of viewers who click on your Adsense ads. You can increase Clickthroughs by increasing the relevance of Adsense ads on your site, and by tweaking the format and placing of your ads.

Although you can't dictate which Adsense ads show on your site, you can
influence the relevance of the ads by maintaining a tightly focused website. If every page on your site focuses tightly on the site topic, its more likely that the Adsense ads will too. For example, if every page of your site is about fishing, and the word 'fishing' appears several times on every page, its likely that your Adsense ads will relate to fishing.

The best way to tweak your ad format and placement is to invest in an Adsense Tracker, and test, test, test! People who have done this tend to suggest that the best format is the large rectangle, with background and border the same color as the page behind it, so that the ad blends into the page. The best placement is towards the center or top left of the first screen of the page. Try these suggestions first, and then track and test, to be sure of what works best for your pages.

Effective CPM

Effective CPM is a measure of your average earnings, per thousand clicks. You can increase your Effective CPM by selecting topics that attract high bids from Adsense advertisers, and building pages and whole websites on higher paying topics.

Although Google doesn't release information on Adsense bids, you can get a good idea of the top paying topics by looking at information on Adwords bids, or, for that matter, bids on pay-per-click search engines like Overture. There are a number of keyword research tools available, both free and paid, that can help you find high paying topics.

The Formula

So now you have the basics of increasing your Adsense income. Its a deceptively simple formula:

-Build pages and websites on high paying topics for the best Effective CPM.
-Format and place your Adsense ads for maximum Clickthroughs.
-Promote your sites to drive targeted traffic to your Adsense webpages for maximum impressions.

Revealed - 5 Insider Tips to Make Overnight Profits From Google AdSense

by: Fabian Tan

Anyone who has ever wanted to make money using the Internet, keep reading. This article will show you five tips to use to create a Google AdSense business.

Here are the five great tips about how to create income from a Google AdSense business.

Tip 1: About Google AdSense

Google AdSense is a quick and easy way to make money. You are required to display text-based ads from Google AdWords, and then receive a piece of the pay-per-click payments. Since Google Ad Words places ads that are relevant to your websites content, people will be more inclined to click on the ads, paying you more money. And that will lead to a very profitable Google AdSense business.

Tip 2: Create Keyword Focused Pages

In order to create more traffic to your website, you need to create keyword focused pages. This means picking out and using the correct words in your website content to attract more visitors and attain a better search engine ranking. This will, in turn, grow your Google AdSense business larger and increase its profits.

Tip 3: Create A Larger Click Through Rate

To increase your click through rate, you need to use simple designs with the Google AdSense ads displayed well. Google research indicates using skyscraper ads featured on the right hand side of your website. And you also need to focus on one topic per page, making it easier for Google to create better ads that match up well with your site. This all means a better click through rate and more money for you and your Google AdSense business.

Tip 4: Increase The Value Of Clicks

This is done by using "expensive" keywords and creating website pages that are optimized for them. Keep these all focused on your websites original theme, though. Eventually, visitors from other "less expensive" sites will visit your website, allowing you to make more money with you Google AdSense business.

Tip 5: Auto Income Ideas

You can also make money with your Google AdSense business by using auto income. This is a way to increase your income from websites that have been built to make you money. This is accomplished by using keywords, building websites with those words included, and then placing ads on your website and promoting it.

Treble your Adsense Income in 60 Minutes

Google's Adsense is one of the most powerful weapons in website publisher's arsenal. It enables you to monetize your sites easily and if used properly can generate a very healthy income. However, if you're not using it properly and maximizing the income you squeeze from it, your leaving money on the table – something we all hate doing.

Boosting your return from Adsense can be done very easily and quickly, and you'll be amazed by the results.

I ran Adsense on my sites for over a year before I discovered these techniques, and like many people, I though I was doing pretty well. My clickthrough rates and CPM figures were very healthy, and I didn't honestly think that they could be improved a great deal. How wrong I was. Immediately after I implemented a few quick changes my clickthrough rate more than doubled, and by doing some fine tuning I manged to get nearly three times as many people to click on the ads as had been previously doing so.

The first technique is one that was 'discovered' by the amazingly helpful Debs, on SiteSell's SBI! forums. When I read it originally, it made sense and I decided to goive it a go, but I wasn't prepared for the immediate impact it would have on my income. It involves making only a few simple changes to the format and positioning of your Adsense ads.

Firstly, forget about using banners or skyscrapers. These ad formats are almost universally ignored by surfers. Why? Because we've all been conditioned to recognise a skyscraper or banner as an advert and as these adverts are rarely of any interest, we ignore them. What's needed is a way of integrating Adsense ads into the editorial on your site as seamlessly as possible. To do this you need to do three things:

1. Use the 250 x 250 rectangle format 2. Make the background color of the ad the same as the background color of your site, or as close to it as possible. 3. Make the ads borderless by setting the border color to be the same as the background color of the ad.

These changes can be made by logging into your Adsense account and creating a custom format. Just select the 250 x 250 ad format, and create a custom color palette. Use the color picker to pick the coor you want. The Javascript is automatically generated at the foot of the page, ready for you to copy and paste into the pages on your site.

Now, you need to position your ads where surfers are most likely to click on them. Research using retina scanning technology has shown that the place that surfers tend to look at first and most often is the top left. I don't know the reasons for this, perhaps it's because that's where we're used to seeing the most useful search engine results (at the top of the rankings) and search engines are the sites we most often visit, so we automatically look at the same place on other sites.

Whatever the reasoning, as soon as I made the above changes to my Adsense ads, clickthrough rates doubled, immediately.

The second technique is much newer and one which is entirely based on my own experience. Google has recently added a new type of Adsense format, called Adlinks. This displays a series of links on your page in the same style of Ad unit as regular Adsense ads. When a user clicks a link they are taken to a page of adverts that resembles regular Google search results. As a publisher, you are paid every time a user clicks one of those ads.

Adventurous soul that I am, I jumped in with both feet and started to trial Adlinks on my most visited pages as soon as it was launched. I'm using the four links in a square box format, positioned top left of my page content. After a few weeks of running Adlinks alongside regular Adsense ads, it's clear that the return on Adlinks is about a fifth to a quarter higher than regular ads. There's no clear reason for this but one explanation may lie in the fact that clicking on an Adlink takes the user to page of 'results'. When a user clicks on one of these, you are paid for the click. If the user finds what they want, great, if not, it seems that they hit the Back button on their browser and try again, just as you would for normal search engine results. Then they click on another result, and you get paid again. So it's possible to be paid more than once from the same Adlink click. Now, this reasoning is speculative, but it does make perfect sense in the light of my Adlinks results.

Finally, Adsense has some excellent tracking statistics that allow you to track your results across a number of sites on a site by site, page by page, or just about any other basis you choose. This is a very powerful tool and you should use it to find out which ads are performing best for you and fine tune your Adsense and Adlink ads accordingly.

So you see, by spending an hour or so of your time making a few adjustments to the Adsense ads on your sites, you can very quickly treble your Adsense income. Give it a go, you'll be amazed by the results.

6 Steps to AdSense Domination

When you make your living online, you realize the need for multiple streams of income.

One of the easiest and most lucrative ways to generate a secondary income, which also happens to be passive, is via Google’s Adsense program.

I’m sure you’ve read the claims of a few individuals generating five figure monthly incomes from Adsense. For many of you, I’m sure you are wondering why you aren’t making this same income yourself.

Well, wonder no more. If you follow my simple six step system, you will be well on your way to healthy Adsense profits within three months.

Are you ready? It’s now time to pay attention.

Step 1 – Preparation.

The key to making money with Adsense is all about numbers. BIG numbers!

Sure, there are a few people making serious money with less than ten sites, but these are the exception.

Your goal will be twenty-four sites in three months. That’s just TWO sites per week!

In order to accomplish this, I recommend one of the many available page generation tools available today.

Step 2 – Determine Your Markets.

In order to maximize Adsense income with only twenty-four sites, you must know which markets are paying well.

To break this down even further, you need to know which keywords within those markets are paying the most.

Step 3 – Register you domains.

Once you’ve identified and chosen your markets, you must register domains appropriate to those markets. For example, if your market is ‘Cabbage Patch Dolls’, a domain such as http://www.cabbage-patch-doll.com/ would be appropriate.

Step 4 – Create your site.

Using your favorite page generation software and keyword list, it’s time to develop your site. There are several key points to bear in mind when you develop these specifically for Adsense.

1. Format – Always use the large 336x280 large rectangle.
2. Border – Match the same color as your background.
3. Background color - Border – Match the same color as your background.
4. Link = "0000CC"
5. Color_url = "999999"
6. Color_text = "333333"
7. Position – Far left or center and just above the page fold (Top 25% of site)

Step 5 – Verify and track your site

Visit your site and make sure all links work and that the sites appear to your satisfaction. You should also check out the ads Google is displaying. Are they targeted to your primary high paying keyword? If not, recreate your site using your high paying keyword in a higher density throughout your site.

Make sure you track your Adsense format, position, and traffic with a tracking system specifically designed for Adsense. Once you know your stats, you can adjust for maximum clickthroughs and higher revenues.

Step 6 – Get your site listed in the search engines.

This is simple… no tricks involved. Simply rent links to your site. A PR7 or PR8 link will do the job.

While I’ve simplified the process here, you are now armed with enough information and resources to make some serious money with Adsense.

AdSense - 7 keys to empire?

AdSense - 7 keys to empire?

by: Richard Keir

There's a lot of buzz around about how you can make a quick and easy fortune using this AdSense course or that tool or this book.

And they show you their incomes from AdSense too (though not necessarily THIS month). Now, is it just me or is something a little odd in all this?

Say, I'm making $5000 - no make that $15,276 a month from AdSense on my sites. And now I'm going to sell all my secrets on how to do that for $67 or $97 or whatever.

So what happened, did I get all bored with my filthy riches and decide to become a philanthropist and sell stuff that makes me 15K a month for a pittance? Or is it something else?

Am I saying it's impossible? Certainly not. I know people who make that more.

But a little reality. Those people don't have 5 or 6 or 50 sites. They have maybe 500 or 3000 or more. Few sites make 20 or more a day. Very few. Average income is probably less than a dollar a day. So with 500 sites at a dollar a day, you've got your 15K a month.

Now the domain names cost you maybe $3500 to $4500. Then you need hosting and somehow you've got to build the sites and get traffic to them. There are excellent tools but the ones that will let you do this kind of thing in a reasonably short time are also very (very) expensive.

And you are continually dealing with sites that don't get indexed or get de-indexed or even get banned. Traffic today, gone tomorrow. Plus, if you're not real careful with those tools you may get an unpleasant letter from Google about a DMCA copyright infringement which could cost you your AdSense account.

You can make money, you can build an empire. But it isn't easy or quick no matter what you hear. And it really isn't a business. It's not a long run proposition, it's not stable. You need to keep creating more sites as older ones fail - or you need to be smart and use those AdSense revenues to build an enduring business.

You put up with this down to here, so here are the real 7 "secret" keys to AdSense.

1. The best performing AdSense type is the large rectangle. This has been tested over and over.

2. The best colors are blue for the link - surfers know that blue means click me. And darkish almost black and grey for the text and url. No borders. The same background as your page. Will it merge into your content? No, that's bogus. There are maybe 4 surfers in this galaxy who can't tell a Google ad when they see one. They are not going to believe it's part of the text. Wake up, OK?

3. Another format which is being reported to more or less work is the full wide banner type layout with text ads and images directly above the links. Try it and see if it works for you. Maybe it's a fad.

4. Keywords and related content are critical if you want targeted ads. If you want high paying clicks you need to target the costly keywords AND have content that supports the keywords.

5. You need traffic interested in the ads. Which means your traffic generation techniques have to be targeted not scattershot. You might hear that 1% or 1.5% clickthrough rate is OK and 3% is good. Nonsense. Really successful people get CTRs that are often well above 30%. Even with modest efforts you should be getting an average 6 to 15% CTR (per ad impression, not pages).

6. You have to track what you're doing and you have to test variations in ad layout, placement, color and related content to optimize your income. No one can tell you how to do it except the traffic coming to your site. If you don't test and track, you're flying blind.

7. You need to keep building new sites.

You are now a member of the AdSense Illuminati. Quite possibly you already knew all that. So why are you looking for something else? Really. This is all you need to start doing it.

Probably any course or book can help you if that's what it takes to get you moving and doing. Ultimately, no one can really show you exactly how to do it. You're going to have to learn the ropes and put in the time.

Like everything in life - the greatest traffic generator, the ultimate course or the super MLM opportunity, if it sounds too good to be true, then it is. There's no magic bullet, no ultimate secret to buy. There's no easy, painless, work free, certain road to riches (except, maybe, inheriting it and that can be very hard on the heirs).

Whatever you do on the net, do it wide awake and with your brain actually functioning. The final un-numbered key is that a technique, a shortcut, an idea that will make what you do easier, faster, or more profitable - one single tiny thing - is worth more than any book or course costs. One useable idea and you've gotten a great deal. If you learned something you didn't know or had forgotten, then it's worth much more than you paid. There may not be any magic solution out there, but there are useful concepts, techniques and ideas. You just have to see them for what they are, and then get busy and really use them.

6 Easy Ways to Increase your AdSense Revenue

How much revenue do you generate from Google Adsense?

Recently there has been a lot of discussion about people who earn over $10,000 a month just from Adsense. Furthermore, there are rumors of a few individuals who earn over $1 million a year just from using the power of Google advertisements.

So what is Google Adsense and how can you use this program to earn a six-figure income?

About two years ago, Google created this program to help websites to monetize their web-traffic.

Here's how it works:

Webmasters obtain a special code from Google which then displays targeted ads on their website. Whenever a visitor clicks on one of these ads, the webmaster earns a commission. Unlike other online businesses, there is no selling involved. All you need to do is get people to click on the ads.

Although this is an excellent way to generate an income, many websites are not effectively maximizing their Adsense potential. As a result, they are leaving a lot of cash on the table.

The question is how can you increase your Adsense revenue without increasing the number of web visitors?

The key to earning an income with Google Adsense is to have your ads match the rest of the site, making them look like part of your content. Your focus is to avoid having the Adsense blocks look like blatant advertisements.

The following are six ways that you can do this and increase your revenue at the same time:

1) Find the right place- Most website visitors read content that is in the middle of a webpage. As a result, the best place to put your Adsense block is in the top part of the page, at the beginning of your web content. You want to weave the Google Ads into your web content to give the appearance that they are extra links which expand on the information of the page.

2) Use the Large Rectangle-With Google Adsense, you have the option of picking different ad formats. Most of the time people opt to use the Leaderboard (728x90) or Wide Skyscraper (160x600) style ads. Unfortunately, this is the wrong choice, because both look like blatant advertisements. Instead smart webmasters have found that using the Large Rectangle (336x280) yields the best amount of click-thrus.

3) Ditch the border- Many people experience a sharp increase in Adsense revenue when they changing their border. What they change is very simple…they get rid of the border on their Adsense blocks. This is another way to make the advertisements look like useful web content.

4) Adapt the font- Whenever you write content, it should be the same font size and style as your Google Adsense block. This will help make it appear that the advertisements are a natural part of your website.

5) Match the colors- In addition to changing the fonts, you also should match the colors of your website. For instance, if your content is written in black, and your hyperlinks are blue, then the Adsense blocks should also be the same color. Again, this helps the advertisements appear to be normal web content.

6) Don't have too many distractions- On a webpage, it is important to give web visitor a limited number of options. By having too many links and graphics, the web visitor might go to a section that doesn't help increase your profits. While it is important to inform and entertain your web visitor, it is also vital that you monetize your site. So if the main focus of your site is to earn an income through Google Adsense, then get rid of all non-essential links and graphics.

By taking the time to implement these six simple steps, you'll see a dramatic increase in the click-thru ratio of your ads. If added to all of the content of your site, your Adsense income will skyrocket!

6 Easy Ways to Increase your AdSense Revenue

How much revenue do you generate from Google Adsense?

Recently there has been a lot of discussion about people who earn over $10,000 a month just from Adsense. Webmasters can place Google Adsense ads on their web pages. The ads that are shown on the site are from the Google Adwords network, where Advertisers buy space on websites and pay per click through to their own websites. Every time an Adsense ad is clicked by a visitor to your site you get paid a share of the revenue that Google makes from charging the Advertiser to place Adsense ads on other websites. Below is a very simple guide on how to get started with “Google Adsense”

Creating Your Own Adsense Code:
You need to login into your Adsense account and then once inside choose Adsense set-up. You then need to choose the ad-format. Many Adsense Publishers have had great success using the 336×280 Large Rectangular Square ad. Then once you have picked the Ad Format, you need to change the colours and make the ads fit the style of your website. Once you have done these steps you can add a channel that will track all the ads on your site and tell you which ads are performing better.
Your code should look like the one below:

You need to copy the code into your website.

Once you have chosen your ad formats and are sure they will fit in well with your template you need to add the code to your files on your server. Once you have done this the Adsense ads will appear on your site in the places you intended them to be placed.

Google Adsense ads will be relevant to the content that is on your site.

Google will start to deliver targeted ads to your site as soon as you place the code onto your site. Google Adsense will try and find relevant ads to place on your site and will match this with the sort of content you have on your page. This will help you in earning more money with Adsense as visitors are more likely to click on ads that are similar to the topic of your pages content.

Best adsense guide book

Download the best adsense guide book for free here

More on adsense

Ad Formats and Placement
Google offers a number of different formats and continues to add new ad capabilities on a regular basis. Fundamentally though, again, it's all about relevance and context. The job of the publisher is to pick the right format that will provide contextual relevance such that a user would click.

Google recommends that users place ads above the fold (that is on the viewable area of page before scrolling) which is good advice but certainly not the be all and end all in terms of placement. Statistically speaking a skyscraper unit (120x600 or 160 x 600) is generally thought to yield greater click-throughs as an advertising unit (at least on mainstream Internet sites), though that that is likely not the case for every publisher or every site. Leaderboards (728 x 90) offer a bigger footprint than a traditional 468x60 banner size, which may help to increase the likelihood that a user will notice the unit. Inline rectangles — of which Google offers four sizes: 300 x 250, 336x280, 250x250, 180x150 — are, generally speaking, the right format to use for ads that you want to place inside of the "body text" of your site.

It's also generally considered to be a solid best practice to have your ads match the color style/scheme or your site, so as to make them appear to look like they belong. The trick to getting the highest potential click-through is to place the ad where a) the user will see it and b) it will be contextually relevant without being overly intrusive.
Keys to AdSense Success

* Advertise your AdSense-enabled sites with AdWords
* Track performance with channels
* Optimize content
* Consider skyscraper and inline rectangles
* Include "other" Google placements (Search and AdLinks)
* Create channels for proper reporting

Search and AdLinks
Adding Google Search to your site is also a good thing to do, especially since now with AdSense you have the opportunity to earn some revenue as well. Search can be used in "Site Search" mode or for wider Internet-based searching (Google Search) from your site.

Google recently launched a new ad option called "AdLinks" which serve up links without the advertisement (the blurb under the title). It's unclear at this point how effective the new format will be, however, as experimentation coupled with measurement is the key to revenue optimization.

Text vs. Image Ad Formats
Google also offers AdSense publishers the opportunity to serve image ads as well as text ads. Unfortunately, however, Google AdSense's current (March 2005) reporting tool does not break down ads served by text or image type, so you'll have no way of measuring the relative effectiveness of one against the other for your site. That said, Google does claim that image ads will have a "higher value to you than the corresponding set of text ads that might otherwise run in the same slot."

Monitoring and Reporting

It's critically important to create "channels" for the different sites (or even areas within one site) to help properly evaluate the success of your AdSense efforts. Without channels all you'll know is how total impressions were served and how many click-throughs, without any page level breakdown. You can create and manage channels from within the "Reports" tab for either Ad Performance or Search Performance. Whenever you create a new ad or search placement, be sure to generate code for each channel on which you plan to serve the ads to ensure proper accurate reporting.

Loading...
The AdSense preview function shows you how sample ads placed on your web site will look with the layout scheme you have selected. (Click for larger image)

In terms of evaluating if AdSense makes sense (or cents) for you, it's a good idea to set your own expectations as to what a click-through should be, as well as what you expect your payout to be from Google. Generally speaking, I consider the minimum threshold for what I consider to be a worthwhile ad placement (in terms of click through) as one that has a minimum 1 percent click through rate. In my experience an average "successful" site is anywhere from 1 to 3 percent. Certainly, you can get higher click-through rates, but it's important to have reasonable expectation in order to have a baseline for improvement.

In terms of earnings-per-click, not all keywords and site content will yield the highest value keywords and thereby the highest value clicks as per Google. Unfortunately, Google AdSense doesn't tell you which ads offer which payout. However, by being aware of AdWords (as mentioned earlier) you'll at least have some idea beyond your own report of what to expect.

Use Common Sense to Make Cents
Before Google AdSense came along, it wasn't all that easy for small publishers to get set up with an ad program that both worked and actually paid out. By following the same basic rules that you would for search engine optimization you can ensure that you'll get the most relevant ads for your site and in turn also increase your click through rate.

Drive traffic to your site with AdSense's cousin, AdWords and utilized the AdSense Preview tool to get a better understanding of what ads may show up on any given site. Though certainly not perfect, Google's AdSense reporting tools are there to help you track (and improve) your performance.

In the final analysis making "cents" with AdSense really involves a healthy dose of common sense. Good Content + Good Relevant Ad Placement = AdSense success.

Make money with google adsense

Anyone who owns or is thinking about creating a website would be crazy to ignore this.

I am happy to say that making money with your site, no matter the topic, has become easier than it's ever been before - and it's 100% legitimate.

If AdSense had been available in 2000, I would have NEVER shut down my soap opera fan site that received 200 hits per day. I would have been able to earn money from that traffic and probably turned a small profit.

Untold Facts About AdSense you need to know in order to succeed with the program!

Yes, the money can be great, but if you don't learn how to build a site that attracts targeted traffic then you won't make much from AdSense.
Don't pay a cent for these "Get Rich Quick" books on AdSense. All this is managed through a program they call AdWords.

Now you can earn a share of the revenue that Google earns from AdWords by displaying these same text ads on your site. In other words, you're helping Google advertise and they pay you a percentage of what they earn.

This program is called AdSense.

Every website owner should at least consider the program. Even if your site is just for information purposes, you can still participate and make decent money with AdSense -- or at least enough to fund your website.

So if you are one of those people that doesn't like the idea of paying for a site, this is an excellent way to earn your money back and then some.

                                How AdSense Works

Don't like to read a lot of text? Why would Google just give away money advertisers are paying them?"

                                The answer...

                                Because Google is very smart.

If you understand how AdSense works, you will see that it's a win-win situation for everyone involved, and the bottom line benefits Google. Let me explain...

Since the advertiser's ads are now being displayed on more web sites all over the internet (instead of just Google's site), they are getting much more exposure. More exposure means more clicks and even more traffic for their site over a shorter period of time.

This is good news for Google because the more traffic the advertisers receive, the faster their advertising funds are used up.

Remember, they get charged every time their site gets a visit; and of course, it is Google's hope that they'll continue to keep funneling more money into their account for more ad exposure.

What an ingenious way for Google to increase the amount of money they earn from advertisers while building loyalty with website owners (like us) who are now getting paid to help them advertise.

Of course, I'd expect nothing less from the most popular search engine on the web. :)

"How Much Can I Earn With AdSense?"

Google does not disclose exactly how much you'll earn per ad that is clicked.

The commission you receive per click depends on how much advertisers are paying Google for the particular ad. You will earn a share of that amount. I've heard of earnings anywhere from 2 cents to $15 per click.

So it is logical to believe that keyword phrases like debt free, employment, make money, mp3, sex, etc. will earn you more per click since these are highly competitive keywords that are searched for quite a bit on the web.

Advertisers generally pay more for popular terms because they are searched for more.

Even though Google will not reveal how much you are earning for each ad that is clicked from your site, you can still login to your account at any time and see the total amount of revenue you've generated that day, week, month, year, etc.

For example, if you see that you've made $12.60 today from 9 clicks then you can calculate that your average click-thru commission was $1.40 per click. That's as detailed as their stats will get. Also remember, that's only an average. You won't know how much each specific ad brought in.

The amount you'll earn also depends largely on the amount of targeted traffic you receive to your own site, how well the ads match your audience's interests, the placement of the ads on your pages, and of course the amount you receive per click.

Ideally, you should create a site on a topic you know a lot about. That way you'll have a much easier time creating a generous amount of content on that subject.

Why I Believe AdSense Works So Well

For years, website owners have tried to make money from their sites by putting up banner ads in hopes of visitors clicking them. The problem with banner ads is that the Internet audience is so immune to them, people do not click on them anymore.

When's the last time you clicked a banner ad?

...Exactly!

Second, in order for the web site owner to earn money from that banner ad, usually the web surfer that clicks has to purchase something. With AdSense, your visitors just have to click the ads. They don't have to purchase a single thing.

Third, most people that use banner ads do not do a good job of matching the ads to the website's content so the click thru percentages are dismal.

With Google's AdSense, not only are you displaying text ads, (which tend to receive a much higher click-thru rate than banner ads), but you are displaying contextual ads that match your website's content....thanks to Google's advanced technology.

Lots of times people think the ads are part of your site's content so they click because the information is relevant to your site. Whereas with banner ads, they often have little relevance and people tend to ignore them no matter how much they flash and fly across the page.

                                                Creating Your Website for AdSense

Before you even begin your site, make sure you've come up with a topic that you feel you know plenty about. That way it will be easiest to write a lot of content.

The more content you have, the better chance you have getting accepted into the program. Also, the more content, the greater the earning potential. AdSense is nothing but a numbers game. If you want to make a lot of money, prepare to write a lot of content.

Now let's talk about building your website. There are two ways you can approach this:

1) Do it Yourself (DIY) from scratch

2) Use Site Build It! (SBI!)

The Do It Yourself Method

I've actually used both methods for building my site and there are advantages and disadvantages to both.

If you use the DIY method, you will have to go and register a domain name (yoursite.com) and then sign up for a web host and build your pages. You can either learn HTML or buy some kind of web editor like Microsoft FrontPage to build your pages. That's the method I used to build this site.

Averaging between $7 and $15 per month, the DIY method is usually the most cost friendly of the two but you are mostly on your own in terms of learning how to create your web pages and adding the AdSense code to your site.

Web hosts are generally there to house your site. They don't specialize in helping you market and optimize your site for the search engines to help you get traffic. So don't expect a lot from them in terms of helping you market your site.

This is not necessarily a bad thing. I had to learn how to build this site on my own and it wasn't very difficult.

I now manage all of my sites with

Use Site Build It! - A Web Host Made for AdSense

This is a revolutionary web host like no other. I use it for my site, flat-stomach-exercises.com, and after only 11 months the site was earning over $700 per month for AdSense alone.

Two years after launch, the total monthly earnings shot up to $2,000 to $2,500.

Today, the site continues to earn money from AdSense yet I have no products to sell. I'm simply offering information on a topic I know a lot about and SBI showed me how to rank high in the search engines for various keyword phrases. Over 90% of traffic comes from the free search engines.

The reason SBI is different from the other do-it-yourself hosts is that first it provides all the web page building and marketing help all in one place. Your domain registration, web hosting and marketing help come with the price..

Super Easy Web Page Builder

Creating your pages is as simple as entering text into form fields and using the user-friendly editor to add text, create links, add pictures and more. No software is needed to install or download. You simply select a template you want to use and your site is built in seconds...literally.

I took a screenshot of the SBI! interface...

Free Guides

What's even better is that you will have access to tons of free guides that show you how to optimize your site for the popular search engines so you can get as much free traffic as possible.

Remember, without traffic, you won't make any money with AdSense. That's why having a host like SBI is so important. Keep in mind, a regular DIY host does NOT help you with search engine rankings and traffic.

Brainstorming Tool

Site Build It also comes with a powerful brainstorming tool. So for all of you sitting there wondering about a topic, this tool literally scours the net and helps you decide on the best topic by showing demand and supply (i.e. number of sites on X topic and roughly how feasible it will be to bring in traffic for that particular subject). It is amazing.

The creator of Site Build It even built a micro site that describes how to maximize your AdSense earnings. And since Site Build It's main goal is to show you how to build income through content...it's almost as if AdSense was designed specifically for a web host like SBI.

See the SiteSell AdSense site here.

I highly recommend using SBI -- especially if you plan on building a site specifically to earn money from AdSense. It is the kind of host that stands for everything AdSense is about -- rewarding website owners for building an abundance of useful content.

Even though the two companies are not related, it really is the perfect marriage between a great concept like AdSense and a web host that is dedicated to showing you how to make money by simply providing information.

Successful SBI Websites

Be sure to also take a peek at all the successful SBI websites created by mostly beginners who have never created a site before. Every site listed on this page is in the top 3% in terms of amount of traffic received on the web - thanks to the SBI search engine help.

Find out why I think SBI! is best for AdSense.

How to Join AdSense

In late 2008, Google tightened up their acceptance policies. According to an email I received from someone who was trying to join the program, you now must meet the following criteria before you are accepted...

- Your website must be your own top-level domain (www.domain.com and not domain.com/mysite). That means you can't just sign up with a free blogger or free web hosting account and get approved for AdSense.

- Your domain name must have been registered and active for at least 6 months before you apply

- The registration information that you provide during the AdSense registration must match your domain name registration information

- Your website must contain a substantial amount of original content

Once you meet the above criteria, go to http://adsense.google.com to apply.

When you are accepted, simply copy and paste the provided HTML code into any page that you'd like to show the ads. If you've done a good job of defining the content on your web pages, the ads that show should be relevant to the content of your page...increasing the chances of click-thrus by your visitors.

You can either display the ads vertically along side the page like Google does or in a banner-like formation horizontally across your pages. The placement is up to you. You can even customize the colors to match your site's theme.

If Your Site Is Rejected by Google...

If you receive that email from Google stating that your site has not been accepted, the first thing you should remember is that as an AdSense member, you become a partner and are representing Google, Inc.

They have to make sure the websites that display these ads are up to par or they could run the risk of losing advertisers. Imagine if you were paying Google to display your ad and you found it showing up on a poorly developed, junky website.

Of course, if your site is rejected, it doesn't mean it is poorly developed. There may be other reasons:

                                              1) Is your site an "About Me" page?

Google does not usually accept these kinds of personal sites because most of them do not have a specific topic or theme. They are usually just random facts about the website owner or their hobbies, pictures, etc.

It would be difficult for Google's technology to display targeted ads on these kinds of pages because the topics vary from subject to subject.

They are looking for "themed" sites that contain a generous amount of information on a specific topic. It could be anything from sewing tips to sports. Just make sure there is an obvious theme with adequate information.

                                  2) Is your site organized?

Be sure your site has a neat and clean navigation that's easy to follow. Also ensure all the links work and that there are no typos. Keep the colors to a minimum and make sure each page has a consistent layout.

                                  3) How many pages are on your site?

Even though Google doesn't specify a page number requirement, many believe they are looking for web sites with a certain amount of content. Again, it's not likely a two-page site will get accepted. Try to strive for at least 15 pages.

                                  4) Is your content solid?

Don't just submit a website with a bunch of links to other sites. Be sure you have a themed/niche site with enough original content of your own.

                                  5) Is your site an exact carbon copy of someone else's?

Some believe Google can find out if your site is original or not. Don't risk it and steal from someone else. It will come back to haunt you.

If you're stuck, write a few articles of your own and then go to sites like www.articlecity.com and sprinkle a few of their articles around your site to beef it up.

                                6) Be sure to read their program policy and procedures carefully and make sure your site hasn't violated any of the terms.

                                Tips on Succeeding With AdSense

Here are some tips for achieving success with AdSense.

1. Create a website with your (YourSite.com). Don't try to use a free web host because your site will likely have banners and pop-ups and get rejected because it looks unprofessional. Not to mention, a free web host will give you a website address like this:

                                http://thefreewebhost.com/yoursite/member1234/home.html

                                instead of...

                                http://www.yoursite.com

Thanks to the policies implemented in late 2008, AdSense no longer accepts sites created on free domains anyway. So may as well register your own domain.

2. If you don't know web programming or have no desire to learn it, get a beginner's design editor like Dreamweaver (what I use) or CoffeeCup. You can publish your content directly to the web from the software.

Keep in mind you can't use the software alone. You must have a web host that will allow you to publish your site to the Internet. (More on web hosting in a sec.)

3. If the main goal of your site is to make money with AdSense, be sure to choose a topic that you know a lot about so you can write lots and lots of content.

4. Get traffic. Once your site is up and running you'll need to learn how to get your site listed in the major search engines.

Getting into Google is completely free and can bring in hundreds or even thousands of visitors per day. All you have to do is submit your site to them and wait patiently while Google adds it to the index. It can take a few months. Patience is key with Google. Then do the same with Yahoo, MSN, etc.

Read up on how the search engines rank pages here.

And while you're waiting it's important you build up as much unique content around your theme as possible. Google loves large sites with useful content centered around a specific theme.

Don't create a hodgepodge site with topics on everything under the sun. Stay focused and make sure your site has an obvious theme.

5. Partner up with other related sites and participate in link swaps. This means that you place a link to another person's site on your own site and they do the same for you in return. This is a great way to get even more free traffic.

Why Most People Fail With AdSense

I want you to succeed with AdSense, but unfortunately the majority of the people that join never see much money at all. Website owners can enroll in this program to enable text, image, and more recently, video advertisements on their websites. These advertisements are administered by Google and generate revenue on either a per-click or per-impression basis. Google beta tested a cost-per-action service, but discontinued it in October 2008 in favor of a DoubleClick offering (also owned by Google).

Pay Per Click
Pay per click (PPC) is an Internet advertising model used on search engines, advertising networks, and content sites, such as blogs, in which advertisers pay their host only when their ad is clicked. With search engines, advertisers typically bid on keyword phrases relevant to their target market. Content sites commonly charge a fixed price per click rather than use a bidding system.

Websites that utilize PPC ads will display an advertisement when a keyword query matches an advertiser's keyword list, or when a content site displays relevant content. Such advertisements are called sponsored links or sponsored ads, and appear adjacent to or above organic results on search engine results pages, or anywhere a web developer chooses on a content site.

Although many PPC providers exist, Google AdWords, Yahoo! Search Marketing, and Microsoft adCenter are the three largest network operators, and all three operate under a bid-based model. Cost per click (CPC) varies depending on the search engine and the level of competition for a particular keyword.

Google Adsense
Among many google is the only provider who accepts adsense application from all over the world.
